JP Rangaswami is a company director and board advisor currently serving on the boards of DMGT plc and Allfunds Bank S.A.U.; he is also a trustee of the Web Science Trust and a governor of the Hammersmith Academy Trust. More recently he became a trustee of Cumberland Lodge.
In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southampton, a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Chartered IT Professional and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. He is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists.
A well-known blogger and speaker at industry events, his TED Talk, Information is Food, has been viewed nearly 700,000 times on TED.com alone. He has also contributed to a number of books, including the 10th-anniversary edition of The Cluetrain Manifesto, Augmented (by Brett King), and The Gameful World (by Stephen Deterding, Ian Bogost et al).
He has invested in a number of startups at the seed stage, and advises a number of investment firms on technology and data issues.
He has been an agenda contributor and future council member at the World Economic Forum a number of times, covering topics related to innovation in finance, technology and cybersecurity.
He served as Chief Data Officer and Group Head of Innovation at Deutsche Bank from 2015-18; Chief Scientist at Salesforce.com 2010-14; Chief Scientist at BT plc 2006-10; and Global CIO at Dresdner Kleinwort 1997-06. He has also been a Trustee of the Computer History Museum and a venture partner at fin-tech investor Anthemis Group SA.
He was named the CIO of the Year by Waters Magazine in 2003; CIO Innovator of the Year, European Technology Forum, 2004; European Innovator of the Year, Innovate, 2005, amongst a number of similar awards over the years.
JP is currently a grandfather-in-training, with two grandchildren, and has retired from full-time work since 2018.
