Findings from the 2010 Study Tour - Surf the Change or be Swept Away - Consumerization, Mobility and the Cloud – podcast

Doug Neal, Donal O’Shea and Adrian Seccombe report on the 2010 Study Tour to San Francisco and Silicon Valley, United States.  The study tour investigated the theme of Consumerization, Mobility and the Cloud visiting 15 companies including Amazon, Jive, Google, Cloudera, VeriSign, Facebook and PayPal.

In this web conference, we report on what we heard, on the discussions we had, as well as outlining the six key action imperatives we took away from the tour.

Adrian Seccombe
Research Associate
Adrian Seccombe, based in the UK, is a Research Associate for Leading Edge Forum.  Adrian's focus is on the future of security and mobility, and on managing information as an asset including identity, risk, governance and compliance considerations. Having retired from his role as the Chief Information Security Officer and Senior Enterprise Architect at Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, Adrian lectured at Surrey University on the subjects of Information Asset Management and Information Security.  Adrian is an IT visionary with extensive knowledge and practical experience in various IT, Security, and Strategy & Quality Management positions in the UK, France and the US.  He was named Information Security Person of the Year (Europe) in 2010 by SC Magazine, and was recognized for his role in the leadership of the Jericho Forum during its decade of Deperimeterization. Adrian joined Lilly as a Telecoms Analyst in 1980.  As Manager of Telecom & Technology Development, Adrian relocated to Lilly headquarters in Indianapolis.  Following four years in various management positions, including IT Strategy Manager, he moved to become the IT Director for Lilly in France.  On returning to the UK, Adrian took responsibility for the Lilly IT infrastructure of Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific & Japan.  He then took global responsibility for Lilly Client Computing & Collaboration Services, whilst retaining his responsibility for the EMEA infrastructure.  He then led the development of Lilly’s Information Risk Management processes, and the IT Quality and Security Management teams based around the globe. Adrian holds a Bsc Hons in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Surrey University and is a trained facilitator.  He served on the Industrial Advisory Board of the University of Surrey Computing Department, was a member of the Board of Management of The Jericho Forum, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Information Security Forum.    
Douglas Neal
Research Fellow
Doug Neal, based in the United States, is a Research Fellow for Leading Edge Forum. Doug's focus is on the intersection of strategy, business operations and technology.     Doug is the author of multiple reports including A Guide to Co-creating Value with Your Customers, authored with Jim Ginsburgh, Lewis Richards and Professor Venkat Ramaswamy from the University of Michigan, Next Generation Consumerization – Co-creating Value with your Customers, The Consumerization Workbook and Preparing for a Post-PC World.   He co-authored the book The Networked Supply Chain:  Applying Breakthrough BPM Technology to Meet Relentless Customer Demands.  Doug’s point of view on consumer privacy was published in Wilson Quarterly, the journal of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Doug has led a number of study tours over recent years on subjects including Dealing with Disruption, The Future of Do-It-Yourself Technology, Mobility, Cloud Computing, Web 2.0 and Green IT. Doug has developed state-of-the-art management and other end-user systems for clients in financial services, manufacturing, healthcare and high-technology companies.  Prior to joining the Leading Edge Forum, Doug worked at two international management consulting firms and founded an organization specializing in systems for executive management. Doug received a BA from Haverford College, conducted special studies at the Ruhr University, and has an ABD from the University of Michigan.
