EXECUTIVE DINNER

Are We Living in a Time of Rapid Change?

In May 2017, Robert Atkinson and John Wu of the ITIF published an analysis of technological disruption and the US labor market, 1850 - 2015. Their conclusion was we’re living in a time of false alarmism. The popular idea that workers in advanced industrial nations face almost unprecedented levels of labor-market disruption and insecurity was nothing more than an article of faith not supported by data. It’s a question of big dogma over big data, of false news and false alarmism versus cold hard facts.

In this dinner, we shall discuss this issue. Are we undergoing a time of rapid change and unprecedented disruption or does every generation believe that?
